SOUTH
DAKOTA PHEASANT HUNTING PRIME AREAS
South Dakota pheasant hunting land has almost doubled in
value over the last decade or so. These acres are
reaching all time high values, which many of our
homesteaders would have never even dreamed of. Many
years ago, two hundred to four hundred dollar acres
where common, in today’s market that number is certainly
doubled or tripled. With the growing demand for quality
pheasant hunting land in South Dakota, along comes the
pricing wars.
Certain counties in South Dakota are know for extremely
high pheasant populations. These areas have been
described as the Golden Triangle, Pheasant Mecca, heart
of pheasant country, etc. While it is true that very
high pheasant populations only exist in certain counties
in South Dakota, the ring neck pheasant is common in
every county. Pheasant numbers are much like deer
numbers, they have a tendency to fair well in certain
areas, and have established themselves in these prime
locations.
Commonly, the areas along Interstate I-90, either south
or north of this line, hold the greatest numbers of wild
pheasants in South Dakota. These areas are very flat in
the slope of the land, and have pheasant rich soils that
make for tremendous pheasant broods yearly.
