SOUTH
DAKOTA PHEASANT HUNTING CLOTHING
South Dakota’s weather can and does change quickly, so
you should be prepared for the worst when planning a
trip on a South Dakota pheasant hunting adventure.
Always prepare for the worst, bringing more than enough
clothing is always a good idea. Heavy clothing down to
light clothing is recommended. Of course, you can dress
in layers daily during your South Dakota pheasant
hunting trip, that way you are able to take of what
clothing you do not need.
The October weather during the South Dakota pheasant
hunting season is generally quit mild, fifty to seventy
degrees is common. Although the chances of an early
season snow storm are slight, it is always a good idea
to be prepared in advance.
Hunting clothing that is waterproof, or sheds water at
the least is also recommended. Good, comfortable hunting
boots that extend past the ankle are best for walking in
heavy cover once in field. Mid-weight socks that breathe
work well with hunting boots.
Brush pants designed to save the thigh areas are also a
must. These upland hunting pants work very well in
thicker cover, and help shed water that is held by grass
that the pheasants frequent. These pants can be
purchased at a local sporting goods store for a
reasonable fee, and are well worth the cost in the long
run.
